The Kilkennys are on top of the world
The Aloft Hotel rooftop in Abu Dhabi just before we played
Over one thousand guests and six hundred GAA players gathered on the rooftop of one of Abu Dhabi’s finest hotels on Friday night to see a performance by our very own balladeers The Kilkennys.
Irish people who are living and working all over the Middle East gathered in the sweltering 38-degree heat on the famous roof of the Aloft Hotel that over looks the capital and the second largest city of the United Arab Emirates.
The occasion marked the Emirate regions GAA finals, a huge event on the Irish expat calendar that sees some of Irelands finest musicians flown in each year to help celebrate the end of a season of hurling and Gaelic football.
Before the finals The Kilkennys front man, Davey Cashin, sang Amhran na Bhfiann which he says was one of his highlights of the weekend.
Following the games the crowd descended on the Aloft Hotel where the Kilkennys performed a full concert on its rooftop.
The following night the band treated the Irish communities with another taste of home as they performed in Coopers Irish Bar.
Germany is the next stop for the Kilkennys followed by a stint in Las Vegas and an extensive tour of Denmark and Holland.
It’s all happening and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the band that penned the song that quickly became the unofficial theme tune for the year of The Gathering, which is available on iTunes.
Before The Kilkennys hit the road they want their supporters in their home city to be the first to see the brand new show that they will take around the world, so it is only fitting that the first stop will be The Watergate Theatre, Kilkenny, on Saturday.
You can get your tickets early by calling the Box Office on (056) 77 61674.
The show takes place on Saturday April 27th at 8pm and will feature a line up of very special guests. It Promises to be an entertaining evening that you won’t forget.
