Band updates – April 2010

It has been a busy month for The Kilkennys following the Story of the Clancy Brothers tour, opening for the great Sharon Shannon, recording our new single, a trip to Scotland and of course the regular gigs here in Ireland.

Online campaign and single release

The band are powering ahead with their campaign for international success. In less than one month the band have reached over 3,400 fans on their new Facebook fan page in a bid to hit 5,000 before the release of their new single.

Realising the importance of good online presence, the band have recently launched their brand new website – www.thekilkennys.com, which was created by Simply Fresh Solutions.

Feeding into their Facebook and MySpace pages, the website acts as a centre point to the bands online activity. With a regularly updated gallery, news section and tour guide, the site also offers visitors the chance to buy their live album Meet The Kilkennys from their online store.

Taking advantage of this online success, The Kilkennys plan to release their new single Keep the Fires Burning via a number of online music sites like iTunes, once they reach 5,000 fans on their Facebook page.

“The Facebook page is a great way for us to keep in contact with our fans and also to get feedback on shows and recordings. It’s a direct link between us and our supporters and an instant means of informing them of forthcoming releases. By reaching 5,000 fans who may buy our forthcoming single online, we have a good chance of making it into the Irish singles charts which is a big achievement for a ballad group,” said Davey Cashin of The Kilkennys.

Along with the new single the band are currently working on a music video with a local production group. The video will be available on the bands website and of course YouTube.

Story of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem

The Clancy Brothers show was a great success for the band with the Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny being the highlight. The sold out concert saw the band going through the history of the Clancys with everything from a fantastic narrative by Cathail McCabe to the famous Aran sweaters.

Two of the highlights of the shows were the duelling banjo and mandolin piece performed by Robbie and Davey and Adams brilliant solo performance of the Cobbler. The audience were pleasantly surprised by Adams theatricals but then again, he always has a few theatricals up his sleeve.

The show took the band to two new destinations – Listowel and Ashbourne, where they received great praise from local media. The shows were not as big as that in Kilkenny but the audience fell in love with the band and now the foundations are in place for two new destinations for The Kilkennys.

Plans are now in place for the second leg of this tour so keep an eye on the website for further announcements.

Sharon Shannon

The band had a great night opening for Sharon Shannon at Kyteler’s venue, Kieran Street, Kilkenny. The packed venue saw yet another new audience for The Kilkennys to conquer, and that they did. So much so that Sharon invited Davey up to perform the famous Galway Girl with her at the end of her set. It was a powerful end to a great show.

Scotland

The band made a welcome return to Dundee in Scotland for a weekend of shows that provoked another boost in the fan numbers on the Facebook page. The Kilkennys have a strong history with Dundee as it was one of the first over seas destinations that the band visited many many years ago when they toured with the Wolf Tones.

So there you have it, it’s all go in the Kilkennys camp at the moment and the bands plans to take their music to the next stage cannot be realised with the help of their loyal supporters. So keep an eye on this website for details on the forthcoming single and video release. In the meantime, you can help the band by suggesting their Facebook page to all of your online friends.
